「a blind spot」

Everywhere around us, we're surrounded by designs.
Whether it's a cell phone in our hand or a tea cup for drinking.

These items are here because someone designed, produced and distributed them.

Simply put…

Many people are attracted to cool designs. And cool ideas and expressions contain the power to create new possibilities.

There are some things that we're not ordinarily aware of. They may just be matters for designers, but when we learn the ideas behind the designs, we feel some of the emotion that went into them, and they become more enjoyable.

There are some things that we think we see when we really don't, and there are other things we don't even try to see because we take them for granted.

Having thrown ourselves full-fledged into capitalism, we failed to verify it with the excuse that we just didn't have the time.

If we don't understand the true significance of things and only look for superficial differences, they'll never change.

That's why...
Praising playfulness and non-productivity, we actually set out to make a wasteful device.

We added a sense of delicacy that lets us feel the four seasons, and the various expressions that help convey that nuance.

An insect's call is not simply noise. It's a sign of a rich sensibility that's able to feel the approach of each season and that carries the information in special sounds.

This is part of the natural aesthetics that we have inherited. It's also one of the attractions and cultural elements of Japan that have been lost without recognition from other countries, because too much attention has been paid to results and profits. It's my hope, however, that we Japanese will be able to understand this on a sensitive level by viewing it with our own eyes.
